How to Decide Which Machine Tool Is Best For You

Updated: Mar 30, 2019

Making manufactured parts, through a series of predefined actions is the main characteristic of a machine tool. Usually, for the deformation of metal machine tools are generally used, but it can also be used for other materials.

In the early 19th century the commercialization of machine tools started and it also evolved to a point where every large or small manufacturer has a series of different tools.

No matter whether you use human or animal power, generally power tools like the Drilling Machines work on one of the three principles: hydraulic, electrical, or pneumatic. With the large increase in product demand the way in which power tools are controlled has also been changed.

Most industrial manufacturing was based on levers and gears that to Until the Second World War, but soon the productivity of these machines have revolutionized numerical controls (and later computer numerical controls).

However, machining center is the latest invention in the field of industrial machinery that includes the functions and elements of different power tools into one singular machine.

Mostly modern models are capable of partial or total self-replication, thereby increasing the productivity and giving the human worker a maintenance role (which is of course a lot easier that traditional manual labor).

Some are the drill press, saws, the screw machine, grinding machines etc are some examples of highly used machine tools but the milling machine tool is the most common and highly used that to without any doubt.

Milling machines have a lot of different models, but the two versions that are generally found are: vertical and horizontal and are used for planning, cutting, drilling etc. Drilling machines are the one type which is widely used for different purposes.

It is hard to give an unbiased advice even without taking into consideration the size and shape of the desired work-piece. It is quite good to know that the horizontal machine was a lot more popular even before the numerical control existed and useful, but nowadays most manufacturers choose the vertical milling machines.
